Themes define the look and feel of your Surveys and email invitations. They ensure visual consistency and brand alignment across all guest interactions by allowing you to customize colors, fonts, and images.
You can create and store as many themes as needed, enabling personalization for each Entity according to brand standards.
Benefits of Themes
- Brand consistency: Reflect your Entity's identity across all Survey touchpoints.
- Efficient reusability: Create themes once and apply them across multiple questionnaires and invitations.
- Flexible customization: Tailor visual elements to meet specific brand guidelines for each Entity.
- Per-channel styling: Set independent colors, fonts, and images for your Survey and your email invitation.
How to Create a Theme
- Navigate to the Theme tab in your Survey Manager.
- Click on the Create new theme button to open the Theme Editor.
The Theme Editor has three tabs:
- Settings: Name your theme.
- Survey: Colors, fonts, and images for your Survey.
- Email: Colors and images for your email invitation.
1. Name your Theme
In the Settings tab, add a distinctive name to easily identify the theme in your library.
2. Style your Survey
In the Style tab, define the following:
Colors:
- Background: Sets the outermost background color; visible only on desktop devices.
- Foreground: Determines the background behind the main content.
- Primary Text: Used for all primary messaging and questions.
- Secondary Text: Used for question details, helper texts, and the Entity address.
- Heading: Applied to section titles and the Entity name.
- Accent Color: Applies to links, buttons, progress bars (if pagination is enabled), and checkboxes.
Fonts:
- Body Text: Used for all questions and descriptive text.
- Headings: Used for Entity names and section titles.

To ensure the best possible experience for both survey creators and respondents, we rely on the Google Fonts library, the largest and most accessible collection of web fonts available today. This allows us to:
- Maximize Compatibility: Google Fonts are optimized for all major browsers and devices, ensuring consistent and high-quality rendering across platforms.
- Improve Performance: Google Fonts are fast, globally distributed via CDN, and designed for web use, reducing load times and enhancing user experience.

3. Style Your Email Invitation
In the Email tab, define the following:
Colors:
- Foreground: Determines the background behind the email's main content.
- Accent Color: Applies to links and buttons in the email.
Note: A few email colors work differently from the Survey:
- Background isn't configurable for email. It stays transparent by default, matching the Survey's outermost background behavior.
- Primary Text isn't set per theme. It defaults to #212121 and comes from the Email Invitation content type instead. If you change this color there using the rich text editor, the change is reflected in the emails you send.
- Heading color isn't used in emails.
- The unsubscribe text ("If you don't wish to receive these survey request emails from us anymore, please click here.") always uses a fixed color of #616161, independent of the theme.
Fonts: Not available for email. Custom fonts only render reliably in Apple Mail, so we skip font styling for email invitations to avoid inconsistent rendering across other email clients.
To save time, click Copy values from Survey to copy the Foreground and Accent color values from your Survey tab into the Email tab, then adjust them from there as needed. Background isn't copied, since it isn't configurable for email.
Images:
- Header Image: Displayed at the top of the email.
- Footer Image: Displayed at the bottom of the email.
If you haven't uploaded an image, check how to Upload an Image.
Note: If your theme was created before the Survey and Email tabs were separated, its email styling now uses #ffffff for Foreground and keeps the same Accent color your theme already had. Background stays transparent, as it always has. You can edit these values anytime from the Email tab. New themes keep the same default colors as before.
4. Preview your Theme
On the right-hand side of the Theme Editor, preview how your selections look on a demo Survey and email invitation. The preview follows the tab you're on: while you're on the Survey tab, it shows the Survey; while you're on the Email tab, it shows the email invitation. This preview is for visual purposes only and contains placeholder content.
5. Save and Apply
When you're satisfied with the design, click Save and Close. Your new theme will appear in the Theme Overview, ready to be applied to your Surveys and invitations.
