When analyzing data in the Dashboard, you'll often see the terms PoP (Period over Period) and YoY (Year over Year). These comparisons help you understand trends by comparing your selected timeframe with a similar period in the past.
PoP – Period over Period
PoP is a trend available to users that have access to one single entity in CXP. It compares the selected timeframe with the period immediately preceding it. The way this comparison works depends on whether you're using relative periods or exact dates:
-
For relative periods, PoP compares the current period to the immediately preceding relative period.
- Example: If you select "This Month" and the month is not yet complete, for example on February 3rd, PoP will compare it to the entire previous month, meaning January 1st–31st.
-
For exact periods, PoP compares the selected timeframe with the exact same duration from the previous period.
- Example: If you select December 1st–20th, PoP will compare it to November 11th–30th (the immediately previous equivalent time frame).
YoY – Year over Year
YoY is a trend available to users that have access to multiple entities in CXP.compares the selected timeframe with the same period in the previous year. As with PoP, the behavior differs between relative periods and exact dates:
-
For relative periods, YoY compares the same entire period from the previous year.
- Example: If you select "This Month" and you're in an ongoing month (e.g., only 5 days have passed in February), the comparison will still be made against the full month from the previous year (February 1st–28th/29th).
-
For exact periods, YoY compares the exact same period from the previous year.
- Example: If you select December 1st–20th, 2024, YoY will compare it to December 1st–20th, 2023.
How to Read Over Time Comparisons
Whenever you see a graph showing data over time, the previous year’s data represents the exact same week, month, quarter, or year as the timeframe you selected.
Example:
If today is February 3rd, 2025, and you select a month-over-month view in an over-time graph:
- For a completed month like January 2025, the previous year's data will show the full month of January 2024.
- For an ongoing month like February 2025, the previous year's data will still show the full month of February 2024, not just the first few days.
